The Capital Chapter is a component organization of AHDI (Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity). The Capital Chapter is based in Austin, Texas, and was originally chartered in 1983 as a component association of AAMT (American Association for Medical Transcription). We are proudly celebrating our 30th anniversary this year! The Capital Chapter has a diverse membership from the greater Austin area and several other parts of Texas. Our members include medical transcriptionists, students, managers, business owners, and various HIM professionals. We have members who work for hospitals, clinics, and transcription services, as well as home-based independent contractors and employees. Meetings are usually held at Seton Medical Center in Austin. UPDATE (11-30-2012): The December 1 lunch meeting (Annual Business Meeting) has been cancelled, per President Marsha Himes. (The November 17 meeting was rescheduled to December 1 due to the big Formula 1 race taking place in Austin. The December 1 meeting will be the Capital Chapter Annual Business Meeting, so please join us as we review the highlights & financial statement for 2012, install our 2013 officers, and plan for next year.) It's also a great time for members to renew their membership for 2013! Stay tuned for more info from President Marsha Himes, CMT (marshacmt09@yahoo.com).

Thanks to all who joined us for the Chapter meeting on September 22, 2012. Attendees enjoyed 2 FREE CECs (1 ML, 1 TW). Our speaker was Karen Brinkman, Director of Risk Management for Seton. Members also watched a video presentation from ACE 2011. View agenda
We thank everyone who attended the "Afternoon of Fun and Learning" on June 9. Attendees earned 3 CECs (2 ML & 1 TW) by viewing 3 great video presentations of educational sessions held at "ACE" in Phoenix. Attendees also enjoyed delicious popcorn from Popcornopolis--8 fantastic flavors! PRIZES were awarded to those who scored highest on a couple of challenging quizzes (related to the video presentations). Overall, SIX lucky attendees each won a $20 gift card from WalMart or H-E-B. Congratulations to April Clawson, RMT; Wynette Becker, CMT; Debbie Mooney, CMT; Polly Whitaker, CMT; Charlotte Sebesta, CMT; Jennifer Berend, RMT. Nine attendee names were also drawn to take home the remainder of the yummy flavored popcorn as a 'thank you' for attending the event. We are happy to welcome our newest Capital Chapter member Charlotte Sebesta, CMT, from San Angelo. Stay tuned to see photos taken at the event.
VIEW AGENDA Please note: The Capital Chapter Board of Directors opted to purchase the component licensed version of the ACE DVD to allow our members to benefit from group/audience viewing to earn CECs. The Registration Fees collected for this event will be used to help offset the higher cost of the licensed component DVD that the Chapter purchased for audience viewing.

The Capital Chapter was announced as the winner of the AHDI Membership Impact Award at the Integrity Awards Show & Brunch held at ACE (August 7, 2010). The award recognizes the chapter's accomplishments in 2009, under the leadership of President Barbara Rasmussen, CMT. A big Thank You goes to Barbara, the 2009 officers, and all chapter members who gave their time and energy to support activities, events, and advocacy efforts of the Capital Chapter and AHDI. At the Awards Show, AHDI presented the Capital Chapter with one complimentary registration to ACE 2011 in Phoenix. The Board of Directors has awarded this to President Kathy Muelker, CMT, in appreciation for her past and present work in growing and sustaining the Chapter. Thank you, Kathy, for all you have done on behalf of the Capital Chapter!
