The Capital Chapter is a component organization of AHDI (Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity). The Capital Chapter is based in Austin, Texas, and was originally chartered in 1983 as a component association of AAMT (American Association for Medical Transcription). We are proudly celebrating our 29th anniversary in 2012. The Capital Chapter has a diverse membership from the greater Austin area and many other parts of Texas. Our members include medical transcriptionists, students, managers, business owners, and various HIM professionals. We have members who work for hospitals, clinics, and transcription services, as well as home-based independent contractors and employees. Meetings are usually held at Seton Medical Center in Austin.  Here's a GREAT opportunity to earn 3 CECs (2 ML & 1 TW) on Saturday, June 9, at Seton Medical Center - Austin (1 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.). We'll be showing 3 great video presentations from "ACE" in Phoenix.
Join us for an AFTERNOON of LEARNING & FUN (yes - PRIZES!) while enjoying continuing education. Registration is required for this event --REGISTER NOW / VIEW AGENDA Please note: The Capital Chapter Board of Directors opted to purchase the component licensed version of the ACE DVD to allow our members to benefit from group/audience viewing to earn CECs. The Registration Fees collected for this event will help offset the higher cost of the licensed component DVD that the Chapter purchased for audience viewing.
As a BENEFIT to our Capital Chapter members who pay their annual membership dues ($10 to $25/year--depending on membership category), we are offering the LOWEST Registration Fee - ONLY $20-- for 3 CECs, and much more-- including continuing education through interesting video presentations from the AHDI Annual Convention held in Phoenix last year, networking (meet new friends, talk to other students/new grads, hear about job leads, etc.), and (as always) FUN & PRIZES (you'll need to pay close attention to the video presentations to be eligible to WIN! Bring a notepad--and get ready to try and win some fun prizes! This is an informal summer event, so casual attire is fine... just remember--it gets chilly in McFadden Auditorium so you may want to wear slacks or bring a light jacket or shawl.
Make plans to join us after the meeting for extra social time as we gather at our usual meetup place--Santa Rita Cantina--across from Seton in 26 Doors Shopping Center. We'll have separate tickets and everyone pays for their own food/beverages (gratuity is automatically included). Join us at Santa Rita at 5:15 p.m. for continued fun and delicious food/drinks! We'll have a sign-up sheet at the meeting for those who plan to go to Santa Rita--so we can get a count for group seating.
 The new date for the Capital Chapter Annual Symposium is September 22, 2012. Chapter members received an email from President Marsha Himes, CMT, communicating the Board's unanimous decision to reschedule the event from May 12 to September 22 after careful consideration. The event will still be held at the Wingate by Wyndham in Round Rock, with our special group rate of $82/nt in effect. The Registration Form will be available on June 3.
Mark your calendar NOW for September 22 -- and get ready to enjoy fantastic speakers, interesting & timely topics, cool door prizes, our annual used book sale with bargains galore, amazing raffle prizes, delicious food (provided), and outstanding networking opportunities! The Capital Chapter was announced as the winner of the AHDI Membership Impact Award at the Integrity Awards Show & Brunch held at ACE (August 7, 2010). The award recognizes the chapter's accomplishments in 2009, under the leadership of President Barbara Rasmussen, CMT. A big Thank You goes to Barbara, the 2009 officers, and all chapter members who gave their time and energy to support activities, events, and advocacy efforts of the Capital Chapter and AHDI. At the Awards Show, AHDI presented the Capital Chapter with one complimentary registration to ACE 2011 in Phoenix. The Board of Directors has awarded this to President Kathy Muelker, CMT, in appreciation for her past and present work in growing and sustaining the Chapter. Thank you, Kathy, for all you have done on behalf of the Capital Chapter!
